Business group wants red tape cut

19th May 2011

The Government must stand by its pledge to reduce red tape for firms, a business leaders’ group has said.

Officials at the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce claim that proposed legislation, including flexible parental leave and an extension to the right to ask for flexible working, would place a huge burden on companies.

The body’s chief executive, Louise Bennett, said that firms would be unable to grow both themselves and the economy if the proper measures, in the form of the correct employment law, were not in place.

She added: “The message from Government to the private sector has been clear for the past year. They will remove barriers to growth and jobs to allow the private sector to push on and lead the economic recovery as well as create new jobs.

“But these proposals fly in the face of that. I am staggered they are considering this now when they want companies to take up the slack being created in the public sector.”
