EU Citizens: Permanent Residence and Registration Certificate Applications Without Passport

European Economic Area Members

The Home Office has launched a European passport return service for EEA and Swiss nationals applying online using the EEA(QP) or EEA(PR) application forms. The service is provided by local authorities and is now available throughout England and Wales.

A local authority will photocopy the EEA or Swiss citizen’s passport and forward a copy along with the application to the Home Office. Therefore, the applicants are now able to keep their passports while their applications are pending consideration with the Home Office.

This is welcome news for EEA and Swiss nationals with busy travel schedules who have been delaying their applications to avoid giving up their passports for up to six months.

Using the European passport return service does not guarantee the success of the application and the local authority cannot provide any advice. At IBB Solicitors, our immigration lawyers will be able to assess your application, provide best advice and support you through the application process.
