Funding non-charities: new guidance to be published in light of the Cage affair

A few months after the Charity Commission’s intervention in the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust‘s (JRCT) funding of the non-charity, Cage, the Commission has announced that it will publish guidance in collaboration with the Association of Charitable Foundation (ACF) about funding non-charities. It is hoped that the guidance will prevent the need for the Commission to intervene in future by giving trustees direction on how to ensure that charitable funds are used for exclusively charitable purposes, including when funding publicly unpopular or controversial projects.

We await this guidance with interest.
