HMRC launches service for online registration of charities for tax purposes

HMRC has announced that charities will now be able to register with it for tax purposes through its website as opposed to having to send in the completed CHA1 paper form. The online version of the form can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/charity-recognition-hmrc. It contains the same questions as in the paper version and the guidance still applies.

HMRC and the Charity Commission have announced that they aim to have the long-awaited joint registration system live from April 2016.
