William Shawcross reappointed chair of the Charity Commission

William Shawcross has agreed to extend his commitment at the Charity Commission from two days a week to three, without an increase of pay. Francis Maude, Minister for the Cabinet Office, has also decided to renew William Shawcross’s three-year term (due to expire in October 2015).

ACEVO CEO Sir Stephen Bubb publicly questioned the early reappointment of William Shawcross, stating “this will only add fuel to the fire of those who accuse the Charity Commission of being a plaything of government patronage” and requested confirmation due process had been followed. The Cabinet Office confirmed that ‘no rules had been broken’.
