IBB Solicitors Helps to Launch Free Legal and Welfare Service for Neuro-Disability

Leading West London law firm IBB Solicitors (IBB) is pleased to announce its membership of a consortium of Brain Injury Group members, offering a free Legal and Welfare Service (LAWS) for those with brain injuries. This was launched on 1 February at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (RHN), one of the leading centres for neuro-disability care in the UK.

IBB is heavily involved in the Brain Injury Group, a national network of dedicated brain injury lawyers and related professional services. It exists to support individuals and families directly affected by brain injury.

The firm will work closely with other members to offer a drop-in clinic and appointments on a weekly basis, along with a series of short workshops on legal and welfare subjects that many families and individuals affected by brain injury have to face. The service will provide advice on a range of matters arising from brain injuries including mental capacity and Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection and personal injury claims.

Malcolm Underhill, Partner and Head of the Personal Injury team, says of the partnership:

“Very few patients suffering a traumatic brain injury will have arrangements in place regarding their on-going commitments. We will offer patients, and their carers and families free advice on the many and varied legal challenges they face with a view to relieving some of the anxiety and problems they experience.”

Dorothy Lain, Head of Specialist Nursing Home, RHN comments:

“Neuro-disability can happen to anyone at any time, and the impact is immediate and profound. There are many practical issues to be dealt with by families affected by neuro-disability. Making LAWS available on site means that they can access the support they need when they’re already visiting their loved one, which minimises disruption and helps them to focus on rehabilitation.”
