IBB Partner receives excellent review

Andrew Olins, a partner from the Real Estate team, has received an excellent review on his book ‘Covenants Affecting Land’ in the latest Property Law Bulletin:

“A practical guide to covenants affecting land looks at both positive and negative covenants, entitlement to enforce (or to make a money claim) as well as rights of variation. It also deals with the issues that arise from litigation or following the insurance alternative. The volume also has a set of useful flow charts and 100 pages devoted to case summaries setting out the facts with clarity and the decision in a degree of detail.

There is an extraordinarily useful approach to the chapter on the procedure for progressing a claim in the Lands Tribunal — so the area of which many have a purely theoretical knowledge is explained. Making a judgement on the tendency to rush to take out an insurance policy — rather than consider the cost efficiency of the alternative — is assisted when the alternative is so clearly explained. It is a pity that greater emphasis is not given to the ultimate practical advice — prepare well in advance by making the application early and before any actual development or sale is about to proceed. Investing in this book, and taking on board its suggestions, could well repay the reader many times over in money made (or saved) for clients.”

Andrew has also written a book titled 'A Guide to Dilapidations' and has published various other articles. He has been ranked as a leader in his field in Chambers 2009 where he is described as "impressively firm and resolute in his opinions, with a high success rate to match".
