Jo Coleman is a partner in the IBB Charities Team, having joined the firm from Farrer & Co LLP in September 2010.   She works on the formation of new charities, constitutional and governance matters, Charity Commission investigations, contractual arrangements (including outsourcing), fundraising arrangements, incorporation of existing charities as well as specialising in charity mergers and reorganisations.

Recent Projects

  • Assisting on the merger of the UK’s largest charities helping older people
  • Advising a social care charity on its merger with a larger charitable provider
  • Advising a charity on its involvement in a joint venture with a commercial partner
  • Advising a growing almshouse charity on its ‘takeover’ of a smaller almshouse charity including negotiating the terms of a new Scheme
  • Completing a full constitutional review and revised Articles of Association and Bylaws for a large charitable learned society
  • Amending the Scheme of a scientific institution incorporated by Royal Charter
  • Advising a religious charity on issues arising as a result of the Equality Act 2010
  • Establishing a new educational charity
