Safe From Harm

A major report released by IBB Solicitors on 18 November 2012 reveals an increase in incidences of child abuse in schools in spite of the efforts that have been made to increase child protection in recent years. The report looks at the effectiveness of the legislation that was introduced to protect children in the aftermath of the murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.  draws on Freedom of Information (FOI) Act requests sent to all local authorities (LAs) in England and reveals some startling findings.

FOI requests were submitted to all 152 LEAs to gain an understanding of how many allegations of child abuse have been made in schools and how those allegations have been dealt with over the past three academic years.

The research was undertaken by legal research company Jures and the report is endorsed by Fair Play For Children, with a foreword by Malcolm Underhill, partner at IBB Solicitors and specialist in acting for victims of child abuse. The report features comment from stakeholders on all sides of the debate, including the NSPCC, the Independent Safeguarding Authority, the Manifesto Club (which campaigns for freedom in everyday life), Unison, and the National Union of Teachers.
