Exporter confidence is up

Confidence amongst exporters improved in the last quarter of 2016, according to a report* published by The British Chamber of Commerce (BCC) and the DHL, the BBC/DHL Trade Confidence Index was 5 % higher than the last quarter of 2015. The Trade Confidence Index, measures the volume of trade documentation issued by accredited Chambers of Commerce.

Brexit priorities for businesses

The BCC’s survey of over 400 UK businesses identified seven key priorities for businesses in the forthcoming Brexit negotiations. These priorities include:

  1. Trade
  2. Customs
  3. Taxation
  4. Regulation
  5. Labour market
  6. EU funding
  7. The border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland

The Brexit negotiations are likely to be complex and may extend beyond the two-year period. This “transition period” will see some EU membership benefits phased out over time. The European Parliament has advised that this should be done by 2022.
