HS2 plans ‘offer no business case’

There is no business case supporting the government’s HS2 high-speed rail plans, a group of MPs has heard. Planning law solicitors are capable of offering services to people who are concerned about developments in their local area. In the case of HS2, opponents of the £32 billion project recently explained to the House of Commons Transport Committee that alternative options might provide better solutions than the high-speed rail proposals. Action Groups Against High Speed Two chairman Jerry Marshall said value for money will not be delivered by the scheme. He explained to Louise Ellman, chairman of the transport committee, that it is not fair to label people “Luddites” if they do not automatically agree with the thinking behind the project. HS2 Action Alliance director Bruce Weston also expressed concerns about the financial side of the scheme. He said: “Interest is now driven by the fact that the project is a waste of money.” Additionally, Next chief executive Lord Wolfson spoke out against the scheme before the committee, submitting his comments on an individual basis.
