Controversial England & Wales Probate Fee Increase dropped

The Secretary of State Robert Buckland has announced that the controversial proposed fee increase has been dropped.

Under the proposals, the fee increase could have been as high as £6,000. Mr Buckland said that the fees increase was disproportionate and the fees will instead be looked at during the next annual review. This will be a great relief for practitioners and clients alike and will hopefully mean that processing times for probate applications will return to pre April 2019 norms of up to two weeks rather than the current 8 – 10 weeks.

STEP (The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) has opposed the increase since the outset and welcomes this decision.
