Charity Commission published Chapter 5 of its Toolkit: Protecting Charities from Extremism

The Charity Commission has published Chapter 5 of its Compliance Toolkit Protecting Charities from Harm: Protecting Charities from abuse for extremist purposes and managing the risks at events and in activities. The guidance seeks to assist trustees to protect their charity against abuse by extremists and is particularly aimed at charities holding regular events with outside speakers and those with educational purposes which distribute material and information, for example debating societies, students’ unions, schools, colleges and universities and religious charities. The guidance explains the trustees’ duty to prevent their charity being used to promote extremist views or terrorist ideology and includes steps for trustees to take in order to minimise the risks associated with particular activities.
