Disused land for retail makeover

A derelict piece of land in west London may be transformed into a retail site complete with cinema, restaurants and a hotel, with some housing also planned.

The area, around Victoria Road in South Ruislip, is expected to become a new focal point for surrounding residents, particularly as the planned commercial development could generate as many as 600 jobs. A masterplan has been worked on over the past year and a half, with the planning application due in later this year.

Arla Foods and Citygrove, the developers, will unveil their design ideas for the former Express Dairies site at an exhibition in the Days Hotel. According to local newspaper The Gazette, between 100 and 150 homes could be built, as well as another supermarket, a 10-screen cinema and four new restaurants.

A Citygrove spokesman said the site will be retail-dominated, instead of the initial plan to have mostly housing. People who live in South Ruislip are invited to see the design plans before any planning application submissions.
