Law Commission to consult on introducing a new statutory power to govern mixed purpose social investment by charities

The Law Commission will consult during the summer of 2014 on whether the existing powers for charity trustees to make mixed purpose social investments are sufficient, or whether a new specific statutory investment power is needed. The consultation will also consider whether a new statutory power should enable charity trustees to invest non-functional permanent endowment in mixed purpose social investments, subject to capital levels being maintained or restored in a reasonable period.
