Charity Commission to develop new quality standards for charities by sub-sector, in conjunction with umbrella bodies

The Commission is working with umbrella bodies to develop new quality standards for charities by sub-sector. As the Commission is to focus on its core regulatory activity, the Commission now considers it to be right to develop an alliance with umbrella bodies to develop standards. ACEVO’s governance commission has set out some recommendations, including the creation of a “kitemark” for good governance and introducing maximum terms for trustees of larger charities of 6 or 8 years, in which the Commission has expressed some interest.
