Fundraising Standards Board (FRSB) Complaints Report reveals 33,744 charity fundraising complaints

Charity fundraising regulator, the FRSB published its 2013 Complaints Report on 10th June 2013, revealing a total 33,744 charity fundraising complaints reported to UK charities in 2012.

Key findings of the report include:

  • Over two thirds (68%) of charities report no complaints about their fundraising;
  • Half of charity fundraising complaints are occur in less than 2% of the charities reporting;
  • More than 8 in 10 (83%) of charities that solicit direct debit donations on the doorstep report complaints relating to it;
  • Complaints are mainly incurred by larger charities undertaking high volumes of fundraising activity;
  • Direct mail, telephone and doorstep fundraising remain the three most common reasons for complaint; and
  • For the first time since the FRSB began monitoring in 2008, direct mail complaints have fallen to 40% of all complaints, down from 48% in 2011.

Charities that undertake high levels of fundraising may find it helpful to use this report as a checklist to ensure that they are fully compliant.
