Government unveils app for separating parents

A new web app is being launched by the Government in an attempt to help families who are in the process of going through a separation.

The new app is designed to offer support and direct people to services and the likes of Relate, National Family Mediation, Mumsnet, Dad.info, Gransnet and Wikivorce will all be involved in hosting it.

A recent YouGov survey, which was commissioned by the Government, discovered that 52% of parents said they found it difficult to access the relevant support for separation and Steve Webb hopes the app will help them.

“Parents working together is in the best interests of the children, and more collaboration helps minimise the impact of separation on them,” said the Work and Pensions Minister. “That’s why we’re launching a new web app, named Sorting out Separation and hosted by leading parenting websites.”

Approximately five million parents in the UK have been through a separation and the latest statistics suggest that more than four million children currently live in separated families, which equates to around a third of children in Britain.
