Probate registry closures go ahead despite continued application delays

The delays at the Probate Registries are well documented and despite the fact that those delays continue, HM Courts & Tribunal Service are pressing ahead with the planned closures and centralisation.  The first closure, of the Birmingham Probate Registry, was announced in the Law Society Gazette this week.

Practitioners are disappointed that although there are delays of up to 12 weeks before a Grant of Probate is being issued, HMCTS has not delayed the planned closures until the backlog has been cleared.
